Exciting changes are being made to the GMC Sierra lineup for 2022, including two new trim levels and several interior updates that will take the Sierra 1500 into even more premium territory. GMC has released details about the new Denali Ultimate and AT4X trims, both of which serve up a level of luxury unrivaled in the industry. Updates to the technology and powertrains are found across most of the lineup and LED headlights gain a new feature that is sheer fun. If you’re already a fan of GMC trucks, 2022 will be a great year to upgrade your ride, especially if you want to enjoy the new trim levels that should be showing up at our Louisville truck dealership in the early part of the new year.

For the Entire Lineup

Starting with the entry-level trim, GMC names the new base trim the Pro and fits each and every Sierra 1500 with a new grille design for 2022. The standard 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine gets upgraded with more power and capability, generating 310 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque that can tow up to 9,400 pounds. That’s a vast increase of more than 20 percent from the previous version of this powertrain. Those who prefer the diesel engine will also be pleased by the increased towing capacity of the 3.0-liter Duramax that can now handle loads up to 13,200 pounds with rear-wheel drive when equipped with the Max Trailering package. For the two remaining V8 powertrains, the 5.3-liter and the 6.2-liter continue to be available in the lineup unchanged.

Animation is becoming a desirable feature in upscale vehicles, and GMC has added a sequence to the daytime running lights that activate when the Sierra senses your approach. The sequence changes when you walk away and the once signature C shape has been redesigned. Now the lights match with the new shape of the grille outline. Technology in the 2022 Sierra 1500 will feature a new standard touchscreen in the center stack for SLE models and above, an enlarged 13.4-inch screen that is readily configurable like a smartphone screen. Apps can be rearranged with the touch of a fingertip, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard with the new infotainment display.

Within the infotainment system, a new set of Google products improves the tech features for the 2022 Sierra 1500, including Google Maps and Assistant as part of the upgrades buyers can expect. A larger 12.3-inch instrument cluster display is fully digitized and configurable as well, and the available 15-inch head-up display is larger for better visibility. For those who choose the front bucket seats in 2022 models, a new electronic shifter is located in the freshly designed center console. In fact, the entire dashboard has a cleaner look that aligns with a more modern aesthetic, with even the clock being featured as a digital display on the touchscreen.

Abundant Luxury with the Denali Ultimate

When GMC created the Denali line of vehicles, it was considered the ultimate in luxury and a signal of status. Now, the Denali Ultimate takes custom features into the realm of the extraordinary with open-pore wood trim laser-etched with topographical maps from Denali National Park, bright chrome door sills stamped with coordinates to Mount Denali, and every inch of the interior swathed in leather and synthetic suede. Hand-sewn stitching in large signature patterns contrasts against the buttery leather on the seats, dash, and doors, and you can expect all the comforts and conveniences to be standard fare for the Denali Ultimate.

From the custom 22-inch wheel design to the Easter eggs hidden in the headlights, the Denali Ultimate is every inch the new status symbol for premium. Standard features like massaging front seats, powered assist steps, and the CarbonPro bed are just a taste of the trim that is brimming with technology and comfort unlike any other truck. For the first time, Super Cruise technology is now included in the Sierra 1500 lineup for 2022, and only the Denali Ultimate has it as a standard feature. With Super Cruise, the driver can now drive hands-free even when towing, and it’s as easy as hitting the button on the wheel. A green line appears at the top of the steering wheel to indicate when Super Cruise can be activated, and the driver can relax while the truck drives itself.

With the standard 6.2-liter V8 engine, the Denali Ultimate has the power to trailer with ease, and trailering features like the new GVWR Alert can estimate the weight of your trailer according to its size and type to warn you if you may have overloaded it. Of course, all the exciting technology withclass-leading camera angles, signal light checks, and in-vehicle trailering apps are all still there to continue the convenience of simplified travel when you hitch up your load. While you travel, the ride quality in the Denali Ultimate should be as smooth as the leather seats with the standard Adaptive Ride Control that provides constant electronic damping. Once you arrive at your destination, if you choose to work outside, the MultiPro Tailgate comes standard with its own audio system by Kicker, built to withstand the elements and tuned for outdoor quality sound.

Off-Road Standards Raised With the AT4X

The AT4 stood out in the lineup as the off-road-ready trim with features that meant your vehicle could take on a trail in the backcountry. Now the AT4X takes the off-road ruggedness and combines it with Denali-style luxury. A unique grille and 18-inch wheel design make their own statement for the AT4X, fitted with 32-inch all-terrain tires and an off-road-tuned suspension. DSSV multi-spool shocks can handle tough off-road terrain with assured articulation, and a full-sized spare is mounted under the bed as insurance against flats on the trail. Rock sliders can be optioned in place of assist steps to keep your AT4X protected against damage, and the exhaust system is safely tucked up into the undercarriage to prevent scraping when driving up inclines.

From the driver’s seat, the AT4X gives you the ultimate control with its four-wheel drive system switches located in the dash for easy access with large buttons to eliminate guesswork during maneuvers. New front and rear e-lockers are only available in the GM truck lineups and are the new face of off-roading with a new toggle switch located in the center stack. Now you can put more focus into handling tough conditions on the trail with one-pedal driving that lets the AT4X control your speed while you control the wheel. When the AT4X takes uneven terrain seriously, you and your riders will be firmly planted in your badged and bolstered seats that come in sport-style dark gray with contrasting red and white stitching.

Driving on the trail deserves to be accompanied by your favorite tunes, and the AT4X comes standard with the premium Bose sound system also found in the Denali and Denali Ultimate. Because the AT4X boasts the type of luxury found in the Denali trims, GMC rewards buyers with other premium features like driver seat memory and massaging front seats, which also come with graded heat and ventilation. Trailering is often part of off-roading, and the AT4X makes good use of the standard 6.2-liter V8 found in the Denali trims. The AT4X can tow up to 8,900 pounds and has a payload of 1,400 pounds, so you can take along your outdoor equipment to set up your base camp when you arrive at your destination.
