GM has big plans to lead the electric vehicle market in North America and has announced its vision of a future with zero crashes and zero emissions. For GM, this vision began with a $2.2 billion investment in its Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant to transform it into what GM calls its "flagship assembly plant in our journey to an all-electric future." Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and tooling, the all-new Factory ZERO is bringing GM's all-electric vision to life and will soon roll out models like the 2023 GMC Hummer EV SUV.

The SUV variant of the 2023 Hummer EV raises the bar for luxury and sophistication and gives new meaning to driving an electric vehicle. The former gas-guzzling Hummer is replaced with an incredibly powerful road warrior that's capable of producing 830 horsepower and up to 11,500 lb-ft of instantaneous torque. Also offering a 300-mile range, the Hummer EV SUV is a far cry from the Hummer of decades past.

As you might expect with an SUV like the Hummer EV, GMC doesn't shy away from its visions of luxury and grandeur, which you'll find in the premium 2023 Hummer EV SUV Edition 1. Loaded with every feature imaginable, the Edition 1 starts at $105,595 and is fit for a king or queen with its plush interior and innovative technology.* Also painted in an exclusive Moonshot Green Matte Paint, you won't find anything on the road like the Edition 1, and that's exactly what GMC intended.

GMC pulled out all the stops on the 2023 GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1, which is a first-edition model that's priced at $105,595 and offers every feature imaginable, as you might expect from its sticker price.* Needless to say, reservations are full for the Edition 1 as Hummer fans hurriedly grabbed every model available in the limited production run. So, what makes the Edition 1 so special? For starters, it's the ultimate in the Hummer EV SUV lineup.

    An Imposing Presence

The Edition 1 sits on 22-inch premium wheels with 35-inch all-terrain tires that reflect its rugged capability. When you opt for the Extreme Off-Road Package, the Edition 1 is outfitted with 18-inch wheels with 35-inch mud-terrain tires as well as rock sliders, underbody armor, underbody camera views, and a variety of other off-road components that make the SUV ready for the trail - that is, if you're willing to risk a few dents and dings on your luxury SUV. With its exclusive Moonshot Green Matte Paint exterior, you can bet that the Edition 1 blends right in with the environment.

The Edition 1 also offers an immersive experience whether you're behind the wheel or riding as a passenger, thanks to its infinity roof with transparent sky panels and its Lunar shadow interior. From the driver's seat, you'll have access to the latest technology to help you navigate everything, including busy city streets, highway traffic, or obstacles on the trail. Other conveniences and comfort features include a power rear drop glass and a power swing gate with a full-size spare tire and wheel.

  • Performance

When you think of an electric vehicle, you might not immediately think of sheer power and capability. Instead, you might think of a vehicle that putters around and is barely capable of reaching highway speeds. The Edition 1 is here to challenge your expectations courtesy of GM's Ultium battery technology and a drive system that delivers up to 830 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of instantaneous torque. You can reach 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds using the Hummer EV's exclusive Watts to Freedom technology.

From the Highway to the Trail

The Edition 1's sheer capability doesn't overshadow its efficiency and proves the Hummer has surpassed its gas-guzzling days of the past with its new 300-mile all-electric driving range. You also have plenty of tools at your disposal to help you navigate the road ahead, whether you're relying on the Adaptive Air Suspension and Adaptive Ride Control to deliver a smooth ride or you're making use of 4-Wheel Steer, CrabWalk, or Extract Mode. The Edition 1 has everything you need for every adventure.

CrabWalk is a revolutionary tool in the off-road realm that uses the SUV's 4-Wheel Steer to maneuver the vehicle diagonally at low speeds. This means you can easily navigate tight trails that are impassable for other vehicles. Tight spots on the trail can also cause you to get stuck, but the Edition 1 can easily pull itself out of a dicey situation with Extract Mode. The first-ever tool of its kind, the mode activates the Adaptive Air Ride Suspension to raise the SUV six inches to climb over obstacles like boulders or moving water.

  • Tech & Safety

Whether you're navigating the trail or cruising the highway, GMC gives you immediate access to all the technology and connectivity tools you need to stay connected and entertained when you're on the road. As the driver, you'll have an immediate view of the 12.3-inch color Driver Information Center display as well as the 13.4-inch touchscreen display that you can customize to your preferences. From the center display, you'll have access to a variety of in-vehicle apps, navigation, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

    Exclusive Features

One of the greatest tech features you'll find on the Edition 1 is the UltraVision camera system that offers 17 unique camera views around the SUV. The cameras are strategically placed around and under the SUV to give you a clear view of the road or trail ahead as well as to the sides and rear of the SUV. The cameras also feature a washer function and replaceable lens protectors that ensure your vision is clear at all times. This makes the Edition 1 even more capable of tackling everything from challenging trails to tight parking spots and beyond.

As you are navigating the demands of the road, you'll want to take full advantage of the 14-speaker Bose premium audio system that features Centerpoint with the Electric Vehicle Sound Enhancement System. This technology transforms your listening experience inside the cabin by delivering multisensory sound throughout the SUV. Whether you're listening to satellite radio, streaming your favorite playlist, or listening to a true-crime podcast, the Bose system will deliver a crisp, clear sound like you've never before experienced.

There's no doubt that the 2023 Hummer EV SUV offers exceptional driver-assist and safety features that are designed to minimize the potential for collision, enhance your visibility, and help you keep your focus on the road ahead. While GMC has yet to release specifics of the SUV's safety and driver-assist tools, we expect the model to include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist with a lane-departure warning. These tools are prevalent across GMC's lineup, and it's expected they'll only improve by the time the Edition 1 reaches customers.

    Super Cruise

Another notable addition to the Edition 1 is GM's Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance tool. GM first introduced Super Cruise on the Cadillac lineup in 2017 and has continuously expanded its availability across GM's many sub-brands. The 2021 Cadillac CT5 debuted GM's enhanced version of Super Cruise that features Lane Change on Demand. You can activate Super Cruise and engage your turn signal, which tells Super Cruise to look for an appropriate opening in traffic. Once the system determines the lane is available, it will merge the vehicle into the lane.

With this technology available on the 2021 Cadillac CT5 and now the 2022 GMC Hummer EV supertruck, you can expect to find it on the Edition 1 when it debuts in 2023. By then, you'll also see better map information and functionality as well as software enhancements that make the system more intuitive. It's also likely that the 200,000 miles of compatible roads throughout America and Canada will expand even further, giving you more places to "drive" hands-free.
