The 2022 GMC Terrain and the 2022 Honda CR-V are two well-known and well-respected models within the compact SUV segment. Both brands are appreciated for quality and innovative engineering. Most drivers agree that their primary concern is getting a vehicle that drives well. The Terrain accomplishes this mission with fuel economy ratings of up to 25 MPG on the city streets and up to 30 MPG on the highways. All-wheel drive models maintain the same city mileage but offer a slightly lower 28 MPG on the highway in exchange for better bad-weather traction.
The 2022 Honda CR-V also features a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Good for 190 horsepower and noticeably lower 179 lb-ft of torque, this engine has a fuel economy of 28 MPG city and 34 MPG on front-wheel drive models. All-wheel drive drops these numbers slightly to 27 MPG city and 32 MPG highway. However, part of the reason for the Honda's slightly better fuel economy is its use of a gearless Continuously Variable Transmission, which is known to provide a less engaging driving experience.
Everyone wants to drive a vehicle that's at least a little cool. After all, many drivers spend a significant part of their day commuting––why not add some extra comfort and convenience features to make it bearable? Cool points are officially calculated by combining the standard features with inventive, available features, and the 2022 GMC Terrain is not lacking by any means.

The 2022 Honda CR-V includes the standard Honda Sensing suite of safety technology, which also includes Lane Keep Assist and Automatic Emergency Braking, along with Adaptive Cruise Control and Road Departure Mitigation. Bluetooth streaming audio is also standard on all models. However, the base trim CR-V comes with a decidedly uncool 5-inch LCD screen, and a touchscreen is only available in the higher trims.
However, the optional possibilities are just as exciting as the standard realities. For 2022, GMC is offering the Terrain with enticing available features at all trim levels. The SLT and AT4 trims are now available with a Head Up Display and a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, and the Elevation Edition package makes the Terrain sleek as can be with gloss black wheels, a dark front grille, and black badging and accents.
The CR-V offers a variety of optional packages that can add gloss black accents to the exterior, cargo organization systems, extra protection from wet and muddy weather, and even a roof attachment to help stow your bikes as you drive. Drivers have access to top-shelf features like hands-free power tailgates and a premium audio system throughout the trim levels. However, even the top-trim versions lack the premium feel of the Terrain.
The 2022 GMC Terrain is available in four trims: the SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. The SLE brings the best of the basics, with a 7-inch touchscreen controlling the infotainment system, two 12V outlets, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The SLT trim steps up with features most drivers wouldn't mind having, such as heated front seats, an HD rear vision camera, and an additional 110V outlet. Memory settings for the power-adjustable seats are standard on this trim, which includes lumbar support.
The AT4 trim is a unique offering in the Terrain lineup. Equipped with Goodyear Sport Terrain tires, skid plates, and an exclusive off-road drive mode, this model is more comfortable in the wild than its stablemates. This trim is equipped with standard all-wheel drive, as well, and decked out in black chrome with special AT4 badging inside and out.
At the top of the trim levels is the Denali, which is luxurious inside and out. Its specially-tuned suspension features enhanced shock control, making the ride atop the 19-inch ultra-bright machined aluminum wheels as smooth as can be. Inside, drivers have features like wireless charging and a Bose premium 7-speaker audio system at their fingertips.
The 2022 Honda CR-V is offered in five trims: LX, Special Edition, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The LX starts with serviceable features, including the Honda Sensing System, but is entirely lacking when it comes to its outdated infotainment system. The real fun starts with the Special Edition. This trim was introduced in 2021 and adds exciting extras, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
The EX mirrors much of the Special Edition's comfort and convenience features, with a few additions, including finer points like a cargo cover, power seats, and seatback pockets. The EX-L adds leather upholstery and two memory settings for the power seats. The audio system also gains a few speakers, which makes HD radio even more enjoyable. The top Honda trim is the Touring, which includes standard Real Time AWD, which is optional on all other trims. A power moonroof, hands-free power tailgate, LED headlights with automatic on/off functionality, and ambient lighting make this a most luxurious CR-V.
There's a lot to like about both the 2022 GMC Terrain and the 2022 Honda CR-V, but the GMC model gives greater access to important features at lower trim levels. It also offers the more prestigious Denali trim and the adventurous AT4 trim, giving drivers far more options than the Honda CR-V.
