By the time Durant founded GMC in 1908, brothers Max and Morris Grabowsky had already gotten their start in the automotive industry with the launch of Rapid Motor Vehicle Company in 1902. By 1911, Rapid was rebranded as the General Motors Truck Company, and the GMC nameplate made its official debut in 1912.
